Re: "Jewish sectarianism and degeneracy!"

Dear all,

JP expressed his views on this topic more graphically when he wrote on another list: "Furthermore, because Judaism inherently is synonymous with a conspiracy of exterminating Christians and Gentiles, its inherent that healthy Christians and Gentile will hate and even want to kill Jews, BECAUSE JEWISHNESS IS DIALECTICALLY AGAINST THE ENTIRE WORLD."

First of all, Marx never said, and I don't believe, that Judaism, disgusting as its racist doctrines are, is a "conspiracy to exterminate Gentiles."

It makes as much sense to claim that the bourgeoisie wants to exterminate the working people.

Second I don't think it's right or politically useful to go around saying that "healthy Christians and Gentiles" should "want to kill Jews." People immediately understand that kind of talk to mean "killing Jews" as a (mythical) racial-national group, not specific aggressive, colonialist, racist Jewish exclusivists.

JP is not based in Palestine where there's an occupation under way and a liberation struggle going on. He's in the US where his remarks sound like incitement to murder on the order of what the KKK are supposedly inclined to do. (Though actually the KKK aren't as blatant as JP is, in fact.)

And speaking politically, the way JP phrases this - by jumping from asserting that you can't separate Judaism from Zionism to saying that "normal" Gentiles will want to "kill Jews" - he is basically saying that mass slaughter of Jews is the "solution of the Jewish question." In "On the Jewish Question," Marx clearly was talking in terms of a solution for the Jewish question in assimilation, which is quite a different matter from mass murder. And Marx wasn't even talking about any kind of "forced assimilation" - as if such a thing were possible - but of a natural process.

JP has also said in the past that Jews don't assimilate. Well, but if "Jew" means somebody who adheres to Judaism, then that's a tautology - obviously people who declare themselves to be Jews don't also declare themselves to be not Jews.

But according to various statistics there are large numbers of people of Jewish origin who stop practicing Judaism and distance themselves from the organized Jewish religious and communal establishment. That's the road to assimilation, which is to be encouraged, in my view.

But talking in terms of "killing Jews" helps out the Zionists or Jewish nationalists - the force promoting Jewish racism and opposed to assimilation. The style of language JP uses sends the message that if you're born a Jew there are people out there who want to kill you and therefore you've got to 'stick together with your own kind.'

This is a microcosm of what Hitler accomplished with his anti- Semitic programme - he drove millions of people of Jewish origin, who were assimilating or assimilated, into support of Zionism.

So in effect, objectively, JP's language serves their ends, not ours.

Best,

Muhammad Abu Nasr
